Barn owls are known for their silent flight, powerful talons, and distinct moon-shaped faces. This woodblock print, Gathering Fireflies, captures one of these stunning creatures in mid-flight. If you look closely, you’ll see the cherry wood grain used for printing the night sky, and how this delicate texture complements the owl’s wings in movement. These rapid marks convey a sense of motion: a challenge to achieve in a woodblock print.

Ink is applied to a hand-carved wooden block.
And pressed onto Strathmore 300 Series paper.
