“Luna” allowed me to use semi-metallic silver ink in a piece. The woodblock print has a subtle glow when light hits the surface of the image. The technical challenge was to create textures that describe the detail and allow the viewer’s eye to flow with the form of the rabbit. The contour of the moon holds the scene together and frames the subject. The piece conveys a sense of fleetingness, like the quickness of a rabbit or the waning of a moonlit moment.

This original artwork was designed, carved, and printed by Lyell Castonguay. Ink is applied to a carved wooden block and hand-pressed onto Strathmore 300 Series paper. Multiple carved blocks layer colors, resulting in a dramatic effect. The artwork is signed, titled, and numbered in pencil by the artist.
