Description
Castonguay was inspired to create this piece after viewing the bird sculptures of Brancusi. The word maïastra means “master” or “chief” in Brancusi’s native Romanian, but the title refers specifically to a magically beneficent, dazzlingly plumed bird in Romanian folklore.
